Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Blast sound cannon legal?
It is important to distinguish between legality and the norm.
In France, as in Europe, there are no laws limiting the sound level of indoor sirens. However, outdoor sirens may be subject to prefectural ordinances, particularly regarding their sound level and duration of activation.
From a regulatory standpoint, conventional alarm systems are generally limited to 105 dB indoors and 115 dB outdoors.
However, the anti-intrusion sound cannon does not fall under the category of alarm sirens, but rather that of acoustic security barriers. It is therefore not subject to the same regulatory requirements.
Does the sound from the cannon travel through walls? Could it disturb the neighbors?
Sound waves do not travel through walls.
- Noise levels: 133 dB indoors ≈ 100 dB through a wall.
See the "Tutorials and Tests" tab
Firing time: 1 to 3 minutes.
Can be reloaded.
Can the BLAST sound cannon be connected to an existing alarm system?
Yes.
The BLAST sound cannon can be connected to an existing alarm system via:
- dry contact,
- or radio relay.
It is compatible with most professional alarm systems on the market.
Is the CS gas dispenser legal?
Yes, this type of system can be used in France to protect a private property.
CS gas is sold over the counter at gun shops. It is intended to protect property and people on private property.
To do things right, you need to follow three steps:
1. Notify
. A sticker should indicate that the site is protected by an alarm. There is no need to mention the gas.
2. Sommer
A siren must clearly warn the intruder and instruct them to leave.
3. Confirm
A photo should show that he is continuing despite the warning. This may also help prompt law enforcement to intervene.
In the event of an audit or a lawsuit, you must be able to demonstrate that simpler methods were not sufficient.
If the site is monitored, equipped with a siren, detectors, cameras, or reinforced doors, and the intruder persists despite these measures, the use of more forceful measures may be justified.
In France, tear gas is, in fact, a common means of self-defense on private property. You are therefore using it as intended.
Aren't sirens normally limited to 110 dB?
There is no single national rule governing the volume of alarm sirens. Regulations depend primarily on city halls and prefectures, which may set local limits.
Outdoorsirens:
- Some cities, such as Paris, impose a maximum noise limit of 105 dB and a maximum operating time of 3 minutes.
- In some cases, a prior notification to city hall is required to prove that the installation complies with local regulations.
- Since regulations vary widely from one municipality to another, it is advisable to check with your local city hall before installing an outdoor siren.
Indoorsirens:
The regulations do not set a strict limit, since noise pollution is less significant. The walls filter and dampen the sound emitted by the device before it spreads outside. As a result, the level of noise pollution is significantly reduced.
Important note: Do not confuse the law with the standards that apply to manufacturers.
- The law: In France and Europe, there are no legal limits on the volume of indoor alarms.
- Standards: For a device to be classified as aconventional alarm siren, its sound level is limited to a maximum of 115 dB.
Above this threshold, the product is no longer considered a simple alarm siren. It falls into a different category: sound cannon, security sound barrier.
If the alarm goes off at night, is there a chance it will keep ringing nonstop?
The sound cannon isfactory-set to a maximum of 1 minute per activation (resettable).
In practical terms:
- If a thief breaks in, the alarm soundsfor 1 minute, then stops automatically.
- If the thief returns and the alarm detects him again, the siren will sound foranother minute, and so on.
TheBlastsound cannoncannot run continuously all night. It always stops after one minute for safety reasons.
Is the sound cannon dangerous to human hearing?
When the cannon fires, if a person is more than 5 meters away and remains there for less than a minute, the effects are only temporary (ringing in the ears, discomfort) and disappear after about ten minutes.
Only repeated or prolonged exposure several times a day could cause real harm.
The goal is not to injure, but to scare the animal away immediately using a sonic shockwave.
Could the Blast sound cannon be dangerous to my employees?
No, as long as you follow a few simple rules for installation and use.
In a small storewhere the entrance airlock leads directly to the protected area, it is recommended to set a10- to 20-second delaybefore thealarm sounds. This gives employees time to deactivate the alarm as they enter.
If the alarm is installed in another room, there is no risk: the employee deactivates the alarm as usual before it sounds.
Even in the event of accidental exposure for a few seconds without protection, sensitive individuals will experience only a temporary ringing in the ears.
In practice, all you have to do is:
- cover your ears if the alarm goes off,
- leave the area,
- Disarm the system using thekeypad, remote control, or mobile app.
That’s one of the major advantages of the sound cannon:it doesn’t release any chemicals.
Unlike opacifying fog systems or gas dispensers, accidental activation hasno physical consequences.
If an employee sets off the alarm by mistake, simplydeactivate the systemand resume work immediately.
How can you reduce the risk of unintended or accidental activation?
TheBLASTfunctions like a standard siren; it isfully controlled by the main alarm system.
To prevent false alarms, the system must be designed so that the BLAST is triggered only after aconfirmed detection(by one or more specific detectors).
Is the system less effective if the burglar covers his ears?
Even with just your hands over your ears, the effect is still very intense and unbearable.
With proper hearing protection (which is very rare, since the element of surprise makes it hard to anticipate), the noise is muffled, but the burglar is still surrounded by an extremely unpleasant wall of sound.
The thief will be unable to communicate and will not hear anything going on around him. He won't be able to tell when a police siren is approaching.
For more serious situations, such as a ram-raiding incident, it is recommended to combine the sound cannon with:
- a CS tear gas dispenser (built-in or activated after a few seconds)
For a “typical” thief, a sound cannon is more than enough. For more serious threats, it’s best to have a comprehensive defense strategy in place. In that case, please contact us.
Does the sound cannon work in large rooms?
Yes, that's actually one of its main advantages.
The larger the room, the more sound waves bounce off the walls, and the more effectively the sound spreads.
You can install a “master” sound cannon connected to one or more “slave” speakers to cover an even larger area. This technology is ideal for protecting hangars, warehouses, farm buildings, and even certain outdoor areas located far from residential homes.
How do I connect my sound cannon to my main alarm system?
The sound cannon can be easily connected to a standard alarm in several ways:
Via dry contact (simple wired connection),
Or via a wireless relay from the alarm brand you use or plan to purchase.
Can the BLAST sound cannon operate without the main alarm?
The BLAST sound cannon can operatecompletely independently withone or more wired motion detectors.
Activation and deactivation via remote control.
How can I tell if my main alarm is compatible with the sound cannon?
It's very simple: the sound cannon can be connected to a main alarm in three ways:
Via dry contact(if your alarm has a wired output),
Via bus connection,
Or via awireless relaycompatible with your alarm brand.
Ifnone of these three options is possible, the sound cannon can still operatecompletely independently:
- It connects to itsown hardwired sensor(motion or door/window), which is tamper-proof.
- Your main alarm continues to send alerts to your phone,
- At the same time, the sound cannon detects the sound and fires its3-minute sound blast.
Result: Even with jammers or a power outage, the sound cannon remains active and can operatefor up to 15 days on battery power.
In short: if your alarm has a wired output, a bus, or a wireless relay, it's compatible. Otherwise, the sound cannon works very wellon its own, no matter what.
Is it possible to connect multiple sound cannons together?
Eachmaster speaker(equipped with an electronic circuit board) can be connected to a slave unit withtwo speakers,
It is therefore possible to set up amaster–slaveconfiguration to cover multiple zones.
With abus-connected alarm control panel, you can even connectseveral dozen smoke cannonsto each other.
The system isfully expandable. For complex configurations, simply contact us: we’ll guide you through the process as simply as possible.
Is it possible to conceal the sound cannon?
Yes, exactly.
There is aceiling-mounted versionspecifically designed to beinstalled in a drop ceiling.
This version includes two hidden speakers and a battery pack that can also be installed in the ceiling.
This solution is not yet featured on the website, but we can providephotos upon request.
That said, the safest way to protect your valuables is still to use a suitcase. Kept out of sight during the day, even the most seasoned thieves won't notice it during any reconnaissance they might conduct.
What kind of maintenance should be performed on Blast sound cannons?
The BLAST requires no special maintenance, just like a hi-fi system.
The only maintenance required is replacing the internal batteries every 4 years.
These are Yuasa brand batteries, available at stores everywhere for about €20.
They are installed in a removable rack, which makes it very easy to replace them, either on your own or with the help of a local installer.
Aside from simply replacing the battery every 4 years, the BLAST requires no maintenance.
What types of batteries are used in Blast sound cannons?
2YUASA12V–7Ahbatteries.
What is the warranty period for Blast sound cannons?
Sound cannons come with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty (excluding batteries).
